The Humanities Center School Of Massage And Allied Health review.
My name is Don and I am a Licensed Massage Therapist practicing in the state of Florida. I am currently doing Massage Therapy on a part time basis but my long term goal is to do Massage Therapy full time.
Which brings me to why I got into the Massage field in the first place. I was tired of my present job and looking for a new carrier field and my wife suggested Massage since I have always been good with my hands. So I researched Massage schools and made the decision to go to “The Humanities Center School Of Massage And Allied Health” in Pinellas Park, Florida. Even though this school was a lot further to drive to I felt it was the right one for me and in the end I was glad I did.
The school tuition was approx. $6500.00 and I was able to obtain a student loan for the majority of it. The course consisted of 625 clock hours over a 10 month period. I attended evening classes 4 nights a week from 5:45 pm – 10:00 pm because I worked a full time job.
After starting my Massage training I quickly realized it was going to be much more difficult than I anticipated. It was much more that just practicing rubbing on someone. It involved a lot more classroom instruction and written tests than I had counted on. The classroom instruction consisted of learning the human anatomy from top to bottom including skeletal, muscles and neurological. There were approx. 13 written tests along the way. But I am living proof that it can be done and I surprised myself because even with my old brain I graduated with honors with a 93.21 average.
My particular class began with 16 students but we ended up with 12 so there will be those that will not finish. But those that do finish with you will be your life long friends. That is one of the fondest experiences that I have come away with is the friendship I have with my classmates now.
I have realized that the school I went to goes that extra mile in teaching their students much more than just the basics and it shows in the industry here when prospective employers find out that you went to The Humanities Center they are much more willing to hire you than if you went to another school.
The only negative part of my whole experience was the national exam for certification. I studied very hard for the exam but it wasn’t good enough and I did not pass it the first time. The questions were very tricky and confusing. But I studied even harder and passed with flying colors the second time around.
My advice to those wanting to be a Massage Therapist is to lay out a long term plan and follow it. Don’t believe those that tell you that you will go out and make $100,000 in your first year of Massage, it’s not going to be that easy. It will take time, a plan and building up your clientele.
But if you are good (and I have been told that I am very good) then it can be done.
The gratification that I get from someone that comes to me in great pain and I have the opportunity to work on them and make them feel better makes me feel like it was all worth the time and the effort that I put into it.
